The Meeting

About 2 years ago, a friend gave me a call regarding a job opening at Megaworld Corporation, during then I wasn't really looking for a new job. I already have one, so why not focus there? But my friend, Greg, who I met at my first job at ProFriends, insisted that I try it out. "What do you have to lose?" he said, and I couldn't think my way out of that question, so I simply agreed.

A few days later, I received a text message from Harold, the Head of Corporate Communications Group at Megaworld, and he asked me if we could do an interview at Edsa Shang Mall for the position of Social Media Officer, which was the same title I had at that moment. So I agreed to meet him.

The interview went well and he told me to wait for a call or a text from the HR Department as to when my second interview would be. And it has been weeks since that interview happened, and I have not received any messages, so I shrugged it off thinking that I wasn't who their looking for, that would fit for the job. Then it was quite a surprise, when I got a text, "Hi this is Zee from Megaworld, I would like to invite you for an interview." I was free, and I don't want to embarrass Greg, so even if I wasn't looking for a new job, I went anyways.

It was October 28, 2014, I remember this date because it was the day my phone fell, face down first, and was on a 50-50 life line, it was a very devastating day, I couldn't live without my phone. Anyway, as soon as I got to their office, they made me fill up these stacks of application forms that got my hand numbed. I literally couldn't feel my hand. They also made me wait for quite a while. It took hours before my name got called, and thanks to my dying phone, I got really really bored. But the good news is, I brought a book to keep me company.

"Ms. Manuel?" Someone called out, and there he was, Mr. Zee. What did I think about him? What are my first impressions of him? Well, honestly, nothing. I didn't find him good looking or appealing, he was simply ordinary. I didn't think much about him.

What about his side of the story? Well, that's different. He told me, that when he first laid his eyes on me, he thought I was beautiful, right then and there, he felt and knew that he liked me, that the feeling was somewhat like love at first sight. But he had a girlfriend at that time, Zarina. Their relationship at that moment was quite shaky, and on the verge of collapsing. He also told me that at that time, they already broke up, but trying to fix things, in which obviously didn't quite work out that well.

Anyway, I on the other hand was single, but that didn't mean that I wasn't infatuated with someone. His name was Lloyd, I met him at my first job at ProFriends, he was quite confusing guy, and I didn't know if his actions were saying, "I like you, like you." or "I'm like this because we're friends." Like Katy Perry's song, he was hot and cold. You'll never know what you're going to get.

Going back, I didn't feel the same connection Zee did. For me, I was just a girl coming to their office for a job interview. I'm not going in to details as to how the interview went, he was just asking questions that a typical HR Officer would ask. You know, the "Tell me something about yourself?" ; "What does your parents do?" ; "Tell me about your job?" ; "What are your strengths and weaknesses?" Nothing out of the ordinary he was just simply doing his job.

After that, he asked me if I have the time in the afternoon for another interview with Harold, and I said yes, but I told him, that I need to go back to the office to do something really really quick and I'll run back to their office as fast as I can.

And you know what's funny? As soon as I got back, he told me, "I was about to text you. Sir Harold is not around. We'll schedule your next interview in another day." And in my mind, I was like, "WTF? You should have checked before you told me I have another interview. I wasted time and effort to go there for nothing."

Anyway, I couldn't do anything about it, so I left, went on with my life, and waited for another text. After a few days, I did. So again, I went for the interview and met Zee for the second time, he assisted me going to Starbucks, because Harold was there. Anyway, the ending? I got the job.
